About the organisation

Lauste family rehabilitation centre and special school is a private institution providing residential care, special school and after care services to boys and girls from 12 to 21 years and open care residential program for the whole family.

Brief history of the organisation

The centre was founded in1919 by local businessmen to take care of the orphans after the civil war. In the course of decades the function of the centre has reflected changes of the needs in child welfare field. Before becoming family oriented treatment centre Lauste was for decades a correctional institution for boys.

Brief description of the population:

Lauste family rehabilitation centre and special school consist of the following services:

• Comprehensive school (60pupils/ 10 of them living at home with their families)

• Group homes (49children), 6 group homes, 1 closed ward (3children)

Supportive housing and after care services:

8 youngsters living in the row house area, where each of them has an own apartment, 3 youngsters having an apartment next to the support family and 3 youngsters living in the same household with the support family. Supportive services to the youngsters, who have left the care and are living on their own.

Preventive family work:

Residential open care program for the whole family (8 families), 3 months intensive program Basic task is to care for and facilitate and promote the growth of the children. In Lauste family rehabilitation centre family work is an integral part of child’s treatment and upbringing process.

The individual treatment plans are carried out by a multi professional team and the numbers of psychosocial methods are used. Problems in learning, poor school attendance, abuse of intoxicants or different kind of behaviour problems combined with other social and psychiatric difficulties are reasons for admission into Lauste family rehabilitation centre.
